More than 2,500 people die every year in Macedonia because of polluted air! The alarming figures make air pollution a "silent killer", side by side with other serious diseases. The numbers are even more frightening on a global scale. According to the World Health Organization, air pollution kills about 5 million people worldwide a year. Estimates show that out of 10 people, only one breathes clean air. Dr. Kamelija Bushljetiq, pulmonary allergist, at the "Acibadem Sistina" Clinical Hospital , Skopje , warns that air pollution will cause a drastic increase in the number of people suffering from lung cancer, strokes and cardiovascular diseases.
